Sir David Attenborough has warned the world faces 'crippling problems' because of climate change after being given a role at this year's Cop26 summit. The broadcaster, 95, said it was 'crucial' that global leaders find a solution to worsening environmental problems. The UN's Cop26 climate conference in Glasgow in November will bring together world leaders to try to agree a plan to tackle climate change. Sir David has been named the summit's People's Advocate and will address political leaders at the event. In a video message, Sir David said: 'The epidemic has shown us how crucial it is to find agreement among nations if we are to solve such worldwide problems. But the problems that await us within the next five, ten years are even greater. Source

Humans Already Have The Tools To Combat Climate Change But We Lack Leadership

When it comes to the political will and leadership needed to drive the world towards a sustainable future, I’m a pessimist. Time and time again, I’ve heard rhetoric from politicians focusing on short-term goals at the expense of planning for the future. In 2021, the mainstream media promote responsible journalism and take a hard line with climate deniers. Many journalists hold governments to account over climate change goals. However, hard scientific data is often still manipulated and cherrypicked by politicians. I’ve spoken to many and liken the experience to walking through treacle. Does their bland decision-making have to do with the structure of democracy itself, with its short electoral terms and lack of incentives for incumbent politicians to make hard and binding decisions for the decades ahead? As I look around and see New Zealand’s highways, jammed with huge diesel trucks and ever-increasing numbers of petrol-powered SUVs and cars, I feel dread. It doesn’t have to be this way. What is it about living on a finite planet that humans either don’t or won’t understand, after all the studies and warnings show that continuing in this way leads to the inevitable collapse of the planet’s ecosystems?  Source

Calamity: Naples' Blood Relic AGAIN Fails To Liquify (Video)

The blood of San Gennaro, the patron saint of Naples, has NOT liquefied on Saturday in the local cathedral. It is the second time in a row that the miracle didn't take place. The event is supposed to happen three times a year: on September 19 (Saint Januarius's Day), on December 16 (Saint Januarius's patronage of Naples), and on the Saturday before the first Sunday of May (reunification of his relics). Naples new Archbishop Domenico Battaglia, 58, the one who prefers sitting on the floor when preaching in a basilica, was appointed on December 12 and installed on Februar 2. On the rare occasions when the blood remained solid, disasters struck Naples, so in 1528 when the plague devastated the city, in 1939 at the beginning of World War II, in 1943 during the National-Socialist occupation, in 1973 when there was a cholera epidemic, and in 1980 before a terrible earthquake. This time, the calamity is likely of a spiritual
